The Catuvellauni, ‘men good in battle’, were one of the two main north-Thames tribes, concentrated in Hertfordshire and including parts of seven surrounding counties. They were probably the most powerful tribe in Britain when their king,Cassivellaunos, commanded the British coalition against Caesar in 54BC. Mint-sites at their capital, Verlamion (St Albans), and maybe Braughing.
