The Trinovantes, ‘the battle-slayers’, occupied all of Essex and the southern part of Suffolk and later dominated the whole region north of the Thames. Their first known ruler was ?Inamnuetoutos, who was killed by Cassivellaunos and whose son Mandubracios fled to Caesar for help. Coins were minted at their capital, Camulodunon, ‘fort of Camulos’ (Colchester).
